NOTES: The 4 satellite images shown below are of Storm ‘AMY’ which affected the U.K. & Ireland, but especially Northern Ireland & Scotland during the 3rd & 4th October, 2025. This rapidly deepening & very active system entered the right hand entrance to the jet stream and exited it on the left hand side of the jet stream to the N.W. of Scotland. At 1200Z on 3rd October it was N.W. of Galway (964mb) and at 1800Z it was over Stornoway (952mb). By 0000Z on 04th october it was centred over Orkney (946mb) and at 0600Z it was just north of Shetland (944mb). NOTES: The 4 satellite images shown below are of Hurricane ‘HUMBERTO’ which affected the Western Atlantic from 27th-30th September, 2025. This was a CAT 5 Major Hurricane with 260Km/hr winds on the 27th. By 28th it was a CAT 4 Major Hurricane with 150 MPH winds. By the 29th it was still a CAT 4 Major Hurricane with 220Km/hr winds. By 30th it had weakened to a CAT 1 Hurricane with 130Km/hr winds. The final 2 images also include Hurricane ‘IMELDA’, which on 29th was a Tropical Storm with 95Km/hr winds & which was, on the 30th September a CAT 1 Hurricane centred to the east of mid-Florida with 140Km/hr winds. By 01st October, ‘HUMBERTO’ had become a remnant low & ‘IMELDA’ had moved to the ENE of Bermuda as a Post-Tropical Cyclone with 75 MPH winds. Notes: The 6 satellite images shown below are of Hurricane ‘GABRIELLE’ which was a CAT 4 Major Hurricane in the Western Atlantic with winds of 216Km/hr on 23rd September, 2025. By the 24th September it had 175Km/hr winds and was, by now a CAT 2 Hurricane. On 25th September it had weakened to a CAT 1 Hurricane with winds of 120Km/hr whilst continuing to move across the Atlantic. By 26th September it had further weakened to a Post-Tropical Cyclone with winds of 100Km/hr. On 27th it was still a Post-Tropical Cyclone with winds of 95Km/hr and was nearing Portugal & by 28th September it was still a Post-Tropical Cyclone with winds of 40 M.P.H. & was over southern Portugal. NOTES: The 7 satellite images shown below are of Hurricane ‘ERIN’ which became a Category 5 hurricane on 16th August, 2025 with winds of 260Km/hr (145 M.P.H.) on 16th August, 2025. By the 18th August, ‘ERIN’ had been downgraded to a Category 4 hurricane. By the 19th & 20th it had been downgraded to a Cat. 2 Hurricane with winds of 165Km/hr & 110Km/hr respectively. On 21st August it was a Categery 2 Hurricane with winds of 155Km/hr and was over the Atlantic to the east of North Carolina & New Jersey. By 22nd August it had again been downgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane with 150Km/hr winds and was in the far Western Atlantic. On 23rd August, ‘ERIN’ had become a Post-Tropical Cyclone and was situated in the Western Atlantic to the east of Newfoundland with (forecast) winds of 140Km/hr. A Very Unusual Cumulonimbus Cell: 2130Z on 20/06/2023 (2): stithiansweather.co.uk/a-very-unusual-cumulonimbus-cell-2130z-on-20-06-2023-2/ NOTES: This Cumulonimbus cell really caught my eye – late in the evening, this developed over the WNW horizon. It gradually went upwards and became highly elongated as time progressed. It is likely that it got caught up in the upper Jet Stream flow and this may have directed it’s eventual shape! The second photograph is somewhat blurred as the camera could not focus properly due to the lack of available light!
